Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church – Sheboygan, WI
Description

In the spring of 2008, Smies & Associates  Architects was commissioned to design an addition to this early 1970’s vintage structure. Some of the major design concerns involved making the existing entrance more open and inviting ,and updating the architectural  character of the building. The owner also asked the architect to maintain the existing color palate of the building because the west half of the existing structure was remaining untouched.

This owners concerns were Met by removing the existing mansard roofs and reframing the new roof to form a gable from end to end of the addition. This roof will go over the old middle portion of the existing entrance area. A new    canopy will be provided as a covered drop-off.

The Church’s building committee asked for larger fellowship areas, larger gathering and additional classrooms for Christian education. New wings on each side of the existing central gathering space were added. An existing room was removed to allow for a sitting area in the new, larger gathering area. Moveable partition walls will be used to allow for multiple uses and flexibility. The existing toilet facilities will be removed and replaced with new updated toilet rooms that meet today’s ADA             accessibility codes.
