St. Luke United Methodist Church Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Description
The organ replacement project continued to expand as the worship
committee discussed ways to improve the worship area. The original
choir pews, altar and pulpit were rigid and unmovable objects that
limited new forms of worship and praise. The chancel areas was also
too small for programs and concerts.
The new chancel space was created on one accessible level, and expanded
into the sanctuary. The altar, lectern and pulpit were redesigned
using some of the original woodwork in new smaller, movable furniture.
The entire sanctuary was refinished, including the original wood
ceiling, beams and wood pews. Asbestos tile was removed, plaster
was patched and repainted. New interior carpeting, tile, and pew
cushions were added along with new lighting, sound system and air
conditioning. The new worship area is now brighter, lighter and
has improved acoustics to go along with the new organ and sound
system making the worship area more comfortable and better prepared
for outreach into the community.
