FIRM HISTORY & PROFILEJeff Smies attended Calvin College & Seminary from 1973-75. As part of his pre-architectural studies he majored in art history and church architecture. From 1975-77 he attended The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, School of Architecture and Urban Planning where he received his architectural degree. In 1977 he joined a Sheboygan architectural firm that specialized in Schools and Churches, (The Stubenrauch Associates). In 1980 Mr. Smies became a licensed architect and project manager for the firm. He became a lead designer for many of the firm’s Churches, Schools, and Commercial Projects. Some of his churches had sanctuaries that seated over 600 people or schools that were as large as 200,000 square feet costing over $20,000,000. Some of his Commercial Projects were Banks, Fire Stations, Safety Buildings, and Assisted Living Residential Houses. In 1994 Jeff Smies formed a new architectural firm called Groth &
Smies Architects, Ltd. As President of Groth & Smies Architects, Mr.
Smies guided the firm to become an architectural leader of religious facilities
throughout Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. |
